Today is my 80th birthday, and my family are going to throw a party for me. They’ve tried to pretend for some time that it’s a secret. But in fact I know perfectly well what’s going to happen. The family have come together and are giving me a great day, and I’m very much looking forward to it.

I hope I enjoy my eighties as much as I’ve enjoyed my seventies. I’m extremely lucky to reach 80 being as fit and healthy as I am. I’m mobile, I’ve got all my marbles, so I’m one of the lucky ones and I’m very conscious of that.

I can say to anybody who is worrying about getting old that if you have your health, it’s enormous fun.
